Srilanka, Nov. 22 -- The Nugegoda opposition rally was not organised to seek or appoint a leader but held with the clear intention of bringing the entire opposition together on one common platform, said MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, speaking at the Joint Opposition rally in Nugegoda yesterday.
He said that it was never difficult to find a suitable leader and place him in the President's seat at the appropriate time, adding that such decisions would be made when the moment was right and when the public mandate was strong.
Dassanayake questioned why police removed loudspeakers from the Nugegoda rally, citing concerns that the sound would disturb students sitting the GCE A/L examinations.
