SriLanka, Jan. 25 -- The Joint Opposition has secured a significant victory in the election for the Dehiattakandiya Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society in Ampara, defeating the National People's Power (NPP) by a margin of 17 votes.
The election, which took place yesterday (24) at the Dehiattakandiya Cooperative premises, saw the Joint Opposition poll 43 votes to claim control of the society.
The NPP managed to secure 26 votes out of a total of 72 votes cast during the poll.
G.M. Jayawardena, a former chairman of the society, was re-elected as the new Chairman following the opposition's victory.
