Sri Lanka, Jan. 18 -- Sections of the Northern Railway Line will be temporarily closed starting tomorrow (19) to facilitate urgent reconstruction following damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
The General Manager of Railways announced the decision during a press briefing.
Under the phased closure plan, the track from Maho to Anuradhapura will be shut down from tomorrow.
From 26 January, the closure will extend to the entire stretch from Maho to Omanthai.
Additionally, renovation work on the line from Madawachchiya to Talaimannar is also scheduled to begin tomorrow.
The project involves the replacement of five railway bridges between Maho and Omanthai and the renovation of the elephant underpass.
