Sri Lanka, May 3 -- Foreign observers will not be participating in monitoring activities of the upcoming Local Government Elections, according to Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake.

He explained that this decision was made because the Local Council election is not considered an internationally significant election.

Election observers from the European Union, the Asian Network for Free Elections, and the Commonwealth were present for the previous Presidential and General Elections.
