Sri Lanka, July 15 -- In a decision set to reshape Sri Lanka's hospitality sector, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved a crucial revision to the Shop and Office Employees (Regulation of Employment and Remuneration) Act No. 19 of 1954.
This landmark amendment will now permit female employees over the age of 18 to work as food presenters and servers in hotels with residential facilities and in restaurants during night hours, specifically between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM.
For decades, the existing regulations under this Act have limited the roles female employees could undertake during these late and early hours.
