Sri Lanka, Sept. 4 -- The Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, has certified the Gambling Regulatory Authority Bill, which will now be enacted as the Gambling Regulatory Authority Act, No. 17 of 2025. The certification was endorsed today, the 3rd of September, in accordance with the country's Constitution. The bill was previously passed with amendments in Parliament on the 19th of August, 2025.
The new legislation will establish a single, independent body to regulate the gambling industry in Sri Lanka. It will repeal several older ordinances, including the Betting on Horse-Racing Ordinance (Chapter 44), Gaming Ordinance (Chapter 46), and the Casino Business (Regulation) Act, No. 17 of 2010.
