Sri Lanka, May 30 -- Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara stated that an Anti-Terrorism Act is essential to face global terrorist challenges.
He made these remarks at the Ministry of Justice yesterday (29), when a proposal prepared and signed by 240 organisations and individuals was handed over to him.
The proposal focused on drafting new legislation to repeal the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act and gather public opinion on the matter.
The Minister further noted that while previous governments had appointed several committees to introduce a new act in place of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, no concrete steps had been taken to draft such legislation.
