Sri Lanka, Feb. 21 -- A police officer from the Negombo Police Station has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the shooting of criminal gang leader Ganemulla Sanjeewa.

The suspect, a 25-year-old resident of Padeniya, was attached to the Crime Branch of the Negombo Headquarters Police Station. Investigations have revealed that he had a connection with a female suspect, Pingpura Devage Ishara Sewwandi Weerasinghe, who is currently absconding in relation to the case.

Authorities suspect the officer had engaged in a telephone conversation with her before the incident.
