Sri Lanka, Feb. 21 -- Fines were imposed on approximately 9,000 drivers and passengers for failing to comply with mandatory seatbelt regulations on Sri Lanka's expressways. The Expressway Tourism Police Division confirmed these penalties following extensive enforcement operations.

Police officers at all entry and exit points actively monitor whether occupants wear seatbelts. This regulation, effective since September 1, 2025, requires drivers as well as both front and rear-seat passengers to remain buckled while traveling on expressways.
