Sri Lanka, Jan. 20 -- Anuradhapura Additional Magistrate D. L. Samarasinghe ordered the remand of a navy sailor until January 26, following allegations of brutal torture and sexual abuse against his wife.
Parasangaswewa Police arrested the suspect, identified as G. Sanjeewa Aruna Shantha, a resident of Mahathammannawa and a member of the Medawachchiya Punewa Navy Camp.
The police informed the court that the suspect reportedly assaulted the victim inhumanely, tied her to a tree, and applied chilli powder to her body before committing the alleged sexual offence.
The victim is currently hospitalised at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, with police noting she remains in a condition too severe to provide an official statement.
