Sri Lanka, Dec. 26 -- National Safety Day is observed today (26), with the main commemorative ceremony scheduled to take place at the Peraliya Tsunami Memorial in Galle this morning.
To honor those who lost their lives in the 2004 Tsunami and other natural disasters, a two-minute silence will be observed island-wide from 9:25 AM to 9:27 AM.
The devastating 2004 Tsunami claimed over 35,000 lives and left more than 5,000 individuals missing across the country.
As part of the annual remembrance, the train that met with the disaster departed from the Maradana Railway Station this morning.
It is scheduled to arrive at the Peraliya area-the site of the tragedy-at approximately 9:27 AM.
