Sri Lanka, Feb. 21 -- Sri Lanka's National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of -4.0% in January 2025, a further decline from -2.0% in December 2024, according to the Department of Census and Statistics.

Food inflation also dropped to -2.5% in January, compared to -1.0% in the previous month. Meanwhile, non-food inflation fell to -5.2% from -2.9% in December.

Despite the decline in inflation, the NCPI for January 2025 increased by 1.8 index points to 206.4, marking a 0.88% rise from December's 204.6. This reflects an increase of Rs. 913.08 in the market basket's expenditure value.
