Sri Lanka, Jan. 9 -- The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Unit of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka has revealed a concerning trend of severe finger injuries among youth during motorcycle maintenance. Speaking at a press conference at the Health Promotion Bureau, Dr. Ganindu Madhava noted a significant rise in young men being hospitalized with such trauma.
The primary cause of these injuries is the dangerous practice of cleaning motorcycle chains while the engine is running. Many riders, particularly those between 20 and 30 years of age, engage the first gear to let the rear wheel spin and then attempt to clean the chain using a cloth.
