Sri Lanka, June 28 -- Najmul Hossain Shanto has resigned as Bangladesh's Test captain following the team's 1-0 series defeat to Sri Lanka, which concluded today (28) with an innings and 78-run loss.
Speaking at the post-match press conference in Colombo, Shanto revealed he had already informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) of his decision prior to the public announcement.
He cited a desire to reduce the number of captains within the Bangladesh set-up, which currently sees a different captain for each format.
"I am stepping down from the Bangladesh Test captaincy. I don't want to continue as captain in this format, and I want to give a clear message to everyone: this is not a personal matter," Shanto stated.
