Sri Lanka, Dec. 27 -- Armed forces, police, and relief teams are on standby to face potential emergency situations caused by expected rainy weather across several parts of the island, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).
The Director General of the DMC, Sampath Kotuwegoda, noted that the Northeast Monsoon, which began on December 09, remains active.
Data from the Department of Meteorology suggests that a wave-like wind disturbance in the eastern region will likely cause rainfall to increase starting December 29.
The Northern, North Central, Central, Eastern, and Uva provinces face the highest probability of heavy showers.
