Sri Lanka, Jan. 30 -- An American Airlines regional jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter collided midair near Reagan Washington National Airport on Wednesday night, crashing into the Potomac River, officials confirmed.
The Washington Post reported that multiple bodies had been recovered from the water. Senator Ted Cruz stated on social media that "we know there are fatalities," though he did not specify the number.
According to an American Airlines source, 60 passengers, along with two pilots and two crew members, were on the PSA Airlines-operated flight. A U.S. official confirmed that three soldiers were aboard the helicopter.
