Sri Lanka, May 14 -- Microsoft has begun laying off approximately 6,000 employees, accounting for nearly 3% of its global workforce, in what marks its largest round of job cuts in more than two years.

The layoffs, which commenced yesterday (13), are affecting employees across various levels, teams, and geographic locations. A significant portion of the cuts is concentrated in Washington state, where the company notified officials that 1,985 positions linked to its Redmond headquarters would be eliminated.

Many of these roles are in software engineering and product management.

The company stated that the restructuring particularly targets managerial roles as part of an effort to streamline operations.
