Sri Lanka, July 12 -- The Department of Meteorology has advised naval and fishing communities to avoid venturing into the sea areas off the coast from Puttalam to Pottuvil, via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota, within the next 24 hours.

In a statement, the Department indicated that wind speeds in these sea areas could increase up to 65 kmph.

Furthermore, waves in these areas could rise to between 2.5m and 3m.

The Department of Meteorology also warned that there is a possibility of these strong waves affecting coastal land areas.
