Sri Lanka, Oct. 28 -- New findings suggest that Type 2 diabetes, a chronic disease afflicting over 830 million people worldwide, can potentially be reversed or mitigated if detected early and acted upon quickly.

Dr. Osama Hamdy, a senior staff physician at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Massachusetts, notes that 91% of diabetes patients globally suffer from Type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes increases the risk of blindness, kidney failure, and heart disease. The excess glucose in the blood is toxic to organs and damages blood vessels, making diabetes a leading cause of limb amputations, heart attacks, and strokes.

Type 2 diabetes is caused by insulin resistance or inadequate insulin production.
