Sri Lanka, Dec. 27 -- Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Dr. Anura Karunathilaka stated that a proposal has been drawn up to operate the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) by engaging private-sector entities.

He emphasised that the airport will not be privatised under this initiative. The proposal is scheduled to be presented to the Cabinet of Ministers for approval, after which Expressions of Interest (EoIs) will be called.

The Minister added that three private companies have already shown interest in undertaking business ventures at MRIA.
