Sri Lanka, April 30 -- A 37-year-old father of two has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Colombo High Court today after being convicted of possessing and trafficking 6.95g of heroin, 12 years after being arrested.

The verdict was delivered by Colombo High Court Judge Navaratna Marasinghe following a protracted trial.

The accused was apprehended in Kotahena on April 7, 2013, while in possession of the illicit substance.

The Attorney General subsequently filed charges against the individual for both possession and trafficking of heroin.

Upon delivering the judgment, the High Court Judge stated that the prosecution had successfully proven the charges against the defendant beyond a reasonable doubt.
