Sri Lanka, Jan. 26 -- A 30-year-old man allegedly murdering a beggar woman in Kandy following a dispute over a Rs. 100,000 loan and later surrendered to the police, the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Kandy Headquarters Police reported.
According to investigations, the suspect, who sells lottery tickets in Kandy, had borrowed money from the woman to give to a lottery agent. He reportedly returned Rs. 70,000 a few days earlier but claimed the woman repeatedly demanded the remaining amount.
The suspect told police that on 24 January, during a trip to bathe in the Mahaweli River, the woman threatened him with a knife and demanded the money.
