Sri Lanka, Aug. 31 -- A suspect has been arrested by Nawalapitiya Police for allegedly breaking into a pawn shop in the town and stealing gold jewellery and other items worth over Rs.3.5 million.

The suspect, who is a registered criminal on the Kahatagasdigiliya Police list, was working as a driver at a funeral parlour in Nawalapitiya.

According to the police, he is addicted to drugs and gambling.

Police confirmed that the suspect stole gold jewellery, a new mobile phone, a laptop, and other electronic items.

He then pawned the stolen gold in pawn shops in Kahatagasdigiliya, Mihinthale, Kandy, Gampola, Ginigathhena, and Nawalapitiya.
