Srilanka, Dec. 8 -- The Government and people of the Maldives have extended financial and material aid to support the Sri Lankan population affected by the recent adverse weather conditions.
The donation was officially handed over to Minister Vijitha Herath by the Maldivian High Commissioner, Masood Imad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
The Maldives' contribution consists of USD 50,000 in financial aid from the government, USD 834,843.98 raised through a telethon led by the Maldives Public Service Media in collaboration with private media partners, and financial support from the private sector, and a consignment of tuna valued at USD 1.2 million.
