Sri Lanka, May 14 -- The Public Health Inspectors' Union is urging organisers of Dansals to pay close attention to waste disposal, as discarded materials can contribute to the spread of dengue and chikungunya.
8,742 Dansals were registered island-wide for the Vesak festival, with the highest number registered in the Western Province, said the Union's President Upul Rohana.
Meanwhile, a special mosquito control week has been declared starting from the 19th.
The National Dengue Control Unit stated that there is an increase in dengue patients due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions.
As of yesterday, 19,724 dengue patients have been reported in the country, with the majority reported from the Western Province.
