Sri Lanka, Jan. 11 -- Police have uncovered a sophisticated criminal network involved in stealing three-wheelers across the island, following the arrest of three suspects. The group is accused of altering the chassis numbers and colours of stolen vehicles and forging documents to resell them.
The investigation was launched after a resident of Battaramulla filed a formal complaint regarding his stolen three-wheeler.
Police tracked down the suspects and discovered that the syndicate had been operating in several major areas, including Badulla, Balangoda, and Colombo.
The stolen vehicles were modified to evade detection and then sold to unsuspecting buyers for prices ranging between 1.2 million and 1.5 million rupees, police said.
