Srilanka, Nov. 30 -- Director-General of Irrigation, Engineer A. Gunasekara, stated that the water level at the Nagalam Street Gauge exceeded 7 feet, indicating that Colombo is currently experiencing a major flood situation.
He noted that even if the water level rises further, the increase is only expected to be a maximum of six to twelve inches.
Engineer Gunasekara also indicated that the Kelani River water level in the Hanwella area reached its maximum this morning (30) and is now gradually receding.
However, despite the reduction in Hanwella, the water levels in the Thotalanga, Sedawatte, Kohilawatte, and Wattala areas are expected to rise.
He estimates this increase will not exceed six to twelve inches at most.
