Srilanka, May 22 -- An officer has been arrested on charges of soliciting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 to assist a resident of Welikanda in obtaining a land plot from the Mahaweli Authority and obtaining a permit.

This was in response to a request made to procure an alternative plot of land to build a house under the Ranaviru Foundation under the Mahaweli Authority, as the 20-acre land which was initially provided in the Athugala area was swampy.
