Sri Lanka, May 4 -- A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck West Texas, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The tremor is part of a series of 46 mostly minor earthquakes that have shaken the area near the Texas-New Mexico border since early April.
The USGS reported that the earthquake occurred at night, approximately 35 miles south of Whites City, New Mexico, roughly halfway between the Texas cities of Midland and El Paso.
The quake reportedly originated at a depth of nearly 4 miles beneath the Earth's surface.
