Sri Lanka, Feb. 12 -- A modern jeep worth over Rs. 40 million, illegally imported and driven with fake number plates, has been seized near the Pelawatte-Parliamentary Junction by a special police team from the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Unit.

The arrested driver, a 52-year-old businessman linked to a hotel group, was previously a UNP constituency organizer in Mahara and later served as a coordinating secretary to a former president.

Investigations revealed that a car with the same registration number was seized by the unit in 2018, while another jeep bearing the same number plate was confiscated in 2019.
