Sri Lanka, Oct. 26 -- The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) states that residents in low-lying areas must continue to remain vigilant, even though water levels in rivers and reservoirs are receding.

This caution is due to the Department of Meteorology's forecast that many areas could receive rainfall of around 75 millimetres within the next 24 hours.

The DMC noted that a slight rise in the water level of the Kalu River is still being reported, and the spill gates of 15 reservoirs remain open.

The centre also stated that the Tri-Forces, Police, and rescue teams are being kept on standby to respond to any emergency disaster situations.
