Sri Lanka, July 21 -- A new global report by the World Health Organization (WHO) has found that loneliness is responsible for more than 871,000 deaths annually, with nearly 100 deaths occurring every hour as a result of loneliness-related health issues.
The WHO's Commission on Social Relations, in its latest findings, highlights the serious impact of loneliness and social isolation on global health, particularly linking it to an increased risk of stroke, heart disease, diabetes, cognitive decline, depression, and even premature death.
According to the report, one in six people globally is affected by loneliness, with significant consequences on their mental health, education, economic productivity, and overall well-being.
