Sri Lanka, April 19 -- The Election Commission is set to convene the day after tomorrow to deliberate on crucial aspects of the upcoming local government elections.

The pivotal meeting will take place at their Rajagiriya headquarters.

This comes against a backdrop of escalating political friction. Yesterday saw a flurry of complaints lodged by various political party representatives with the Election Commission. Their grievances centre on a recent statement made by the President concerning the financial provisions allocated to local government bodies. Adding to this, the United Republic Front has also formally complained about a separate statement made by the President regarding the 'Aswesuma' welfare programme.
