Sri Lanka, Jan. 9 -- A deep depression located in the Bay of Bengal southeast of Sri Lanka will enter the island tomorrow afternoon (09), according to a forecast by the Department of Meteorology. In response, the National Building Research Institue (NBRI) issued a special landslide warning for several high-risk areas.

The weather system is expected to cross the coast between Hambantota and Kalmunai between 5:30 PM and 11:30 PM tomorrow. Due to anticipated heavy rainfall and recent soil instability, residents in designated risk zones must move to safe locations before the afternoon of January 09, 2026.
