Sri Lanka, April 11 -- A man was injured and hospitalized after police opened fire near the Gala Junction in Kiribathgoda early this morning (11).

Police said the incident took place around 2:30 a.m. when officers on patrol noticed a suspicious individual near a motorcycle. When one officer approached to investigate, the suspect allegedly attempted to flee, prompting the officer to open fire.

The injured individual, a 29-year-old resident of the Heiyanthuduwa area in Biyagama, was admitted to the Ragama Teaching Hospital. Police confirmed that his condition is not serious.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
