Sri Lanka, Feb. 21 -- The Senate voted 51-49 to confirm Kash Patel as the next director of the FBI on Thursday afternoon, with every Democrat opposing the nomination and two Republicans, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), also voting against him.
Patel takes on the role as the FBI faces significant turmoil, with President Donald Trump vowing to overhaul the agency. Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) defended Patel's appointment, stating, "We need to restore accountability at the FBI, particularly on that top floor of the Hoover Building. Mr. Patel is exactly the man that can do that."
