Srilanka, Nov. 24 -- Kankesanthurai Police report that the Sri Maha Muththumariamman Kovil in Kankesanthurai was broken into, and cash and gold jewelry valued at approximately Rs.1.5 million were stolen.
Police stated that the robbery occurred last night (23).
A complaint regarding the incident was filed by N. A. V. Iyer from Kirmalai, who lives near the Kovil.
The stolen items include Rs. 1 million in cash and gold jewellery weighing one and a half sovereigns.
The Police have launched an investigation into the incident, but no suspects have been arrested yet.
