Sri Lanka, April 24 -- The Kandy District Secretary is appealing to the public to refrain from travelling to Kandy to venerate the Sacred Tooth Relic until further notice.

This follows earlier advice from the police, who had asked people to avoid making the journey today (24) and tomorrow (25) due to the overwhelming number of pilgrims already in the city.

Speaking at a news conference yesterday (24), police had indicated that if space became available today (25), an announcement would be made via the media to welcome devotees back to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
