Srilanka, Dec. 28 -- The bomb threat targeting the Kandy District Secretariat has been confirmed by police as a hoax intended to cause public panic.
An anonymous email received by the Secretariat on December 26 claimed that explosives had been planted at five locations within the premises.
Following the threat, a massive search operation was launched under the direction of the Senior Superintendent of Police for the Kandy Division.
The operation included teams from the Kandy Police, the Police Kennel Division, the Special Task Force (STF) bomb disposal unit, and the Sri Lanka Army's bomb disposal squad.
