Sri Lanka, Sept. 12 -- Member of Parliament Kabir Hashim has been elected as the new chairman of the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) for the first session of the 10th Parliament.

The election took place in Parliament today (12) to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of the former chairman, MP Aravinda Senarath, on August 6, 2025.

MP Hashim's name was proposed by MPs J.C. Alawathuwala and Rohitha Abeygunawardena.

Addressing the committee, the newly elected chairman stated that he intends to carry out his duties impartially, free from political ideologies, and with the full cooperation of all members.
