Sri Lanka, Oct. 14 -- The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has re-issued a circular outlining the directives that Magistrates must follow regarding suspects on remand and convicted prisoners.

The circular emphasizes that Magistrates should not order that any suspect or prisoner be detained in a special prison or be provided special security.

Reason for Reissue

The JSC re-issued Circular No. 344, dated 11.05.2012, to all judicial officers. The notification, signed by JSC Secretary Prasanna Alwis, states that the Prison Department officials have reported to the JSC about facing numerous practical difficulties when implementing orders issued by Magistrates under "special circumstances" regarding suspects and prisoners.
