Sri Lanka, Sept. 17 -- The Inter University Students' Federation (IUSF) is calling on the government to allocate 3% of the national budget to the education sector in the upcoming budget, as a first step towards reaching a goal of 6%.

The group's convenor, Madushan Chandrajith, told media yesterday (16) that the IUSF has submitted proposals to both the Education and Finance ministries.

Mr. Chandrajith stated that the primary concern is the significant reduction of state funds for education in recent years, which has led to a serious decline across all levels, including school, university, and vocational education.
