Sri Lanka, Feb. 4 -- Batticaloa District Member of Parliament Shanakiyan Rasamanickam assumed the role of parliamentary group leader for the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK).

This appointment follows the removal of MP S. Sritharan, who previously held the leadership position.

ITAK Leader C.V.K. Sivagnanam and General Secretary MP M.A. Sumanthiran officially communicated this decision in writing to Parliament.

Party sources indicate that the change occurred because Sritharan repeatedly acted against party policies during Constitutional Council proceedings.

Rasamanickam stated that he intends to lead the group in Parliament while upholding the party's principles and meeting the expectations of the voters.
