Sri Lanka, July 24 -- Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya says the root cause of the burden on students is not the weight of their school bags but the current examination system.

Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo on new educational reforms, the Prime Minister announced that a final decision on term examinations will be made during a meeting today (24).

Additionally, a meeting to brief Members of Parliament on the proposed reforms was held at the Parliament complex on Tuesday (22), also chaired by the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, lecturers from three faculties of the University of the Visual and Performing Arts protested yesterday (23) against the new reforms, specifically the decision to make aesthetic subjects non-mandatory. They...
