Sri Lanka, Aug. 30 -- Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara has announced that investigations into more than 10,531 complaints of enforced disappearances reported in the North and South before the year 2000 will be reopened.

The Minister stated that Cabinet approval has already been obtained for the initiative, with 375 million rupees allocated for the process.

He made the announcement during an event organised by the Office on Missing Persons (OMP) at Temple Trees, held to mark the International Day of the Enforced Disappeared.

Minister Nanayakkara stressed that the move was "not a political promise or a symbolic show."
