Sri Lanka, Dec. 16 -- The Lanka Goods and Services Transport Workers' Union warns that ships risk diverting to India's Vizhinjam Port if Colombo Port fails to enhance its efficiency, minimise vessel delays, and offer attractive services.

The union further points out that the government must immediately focus its attention on addressing this challenge.

The recently developed Vizhinjam International Deepwater Seaport in Kerala, India, poses a severe challenge to the historical status of Sri Lanka's Colombo Port as a regional maritime hub.
