Sri Lanka, June 19 -- The Sri Lanka Vehicle Importers Association reports that between 700 and 1,000 imported vehicles are currently stuck at the Colombo and Hambantota ports.
Speaking to Hiru News, Association Chairman Indika Sampath Merenchige attributed the delay to complications arising from the Extraordinary Gazette Notification issued on April 3, 2013, under Import and Export Regulations.
Meanwhile, Commissioner General of Motor Traffic Kamal Amarasinghe stated that since the lifting of vehicle import restrictions earlier this year, 73,400 vehicles, including motorcycles, have been registered with the Department of Motor Traffic.
Of this total, 58,947 were motorcycles, while 7,500 were cars and 1,666 were three-wheelers.
