Sri Lanka, May 30 -- The first batch of coconut milk, imported under a programme to source raw materials for industries, has been sent for clearance and laboratory testing.

The Ministry of Plantations and Community Infrastructure announced that this consignment is the first of coconut-based products, equivalent to 200 million coconuts, imported after Cabinet approval was granted last March.

This initial batch is intended for the powdered coconut milk industry.

The Ministry anticipates that this will ensure the necessary raw materials for industries and contribute to a reduction in local coconut prices.

The batch will be released to factories upon receiving approval from the relevant institutions.
