Sri Lanka, March 20 -- IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon, who was remanded for one day after surrendering to the Matara Magistrate's Court, is scheduled to appear before the court again today.
Tennakoon surrendered yesterday after evading arrest for 20 days following a warrant issued against him for alleged involvement in a conspiracy to commit murder in a shooting incident in Weligama on December 31, 2023.
The Court of Appeal recently dismissed Tennakoon's writ petition seeking to prevent his arrest. Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala revealed that Tennakoon surrendered as Criminal Investigation Department officers arrived at the Matara Magistrate's Court to request an order to freeze his assets.
