Sri Lanka, Jan. 20 -- A 32-year-old man sustained severe injuries after being shot while gathering honey in the Maduru Oya Reserve near the Dambana indigenous village in Mahiyangana. The incident occurred around 5:30 PM yesterday (18) in the Neelagalagoda area of the forest.

The victim, identified as H.M. Jayaratne from Watuyaya, Dambana, was inside the reserve with another individual when the gunfire erupted. The victim suffered gunshot wounds to his upper arm and back. Local residents entered the forest at night to rescue him and bring him back to the village, after which he was transported to the Mahiyangana Basic Hospital via the 1990 ambulance service.
